Okabe Rintarou es un joven que se define a sí mismo como científico loco. Juntos con sus amigos Mayuri y Daru, forma parte el “Laboratorio de Dispositivos del Futuro” una especie de laboratorio clandestino en un pequeño apartamento. Okabe y Mayuri acuden a una conferencia sobre viajes temporales cuando se topan con lo que parece ser un asesinato. Okabe huye espantado mientras avisa a Daru del crimen cuando, de repente, Okabe cambia el pasado evitando el asesinato. ¿Cómo lo ha hecho? ¿Qué consecuencias tendrá este cambio?
